Internship
Forensic Science Internship for Credits
To enhance your research experience and skills of forensic science in real settings, forensic science students (preference: senior students) are encouraged to participate in forensic related internship such as the county sheriff's office, Police Department, or the Medical Examiner Office. Furthermore, your internship can be counted as credits towards your forensic science degree!
To initiate it, you need to send an internship offer letter to our academic advisor Ms. Krysten A. Navarro kanavarro3@utep.edu and the Program Director Dr. Xiujun James Li, with job description, hours per week, and the internship period. Currently, we are using CHEM4376 or CHEM4176 (Introduction to Research) for your Credits. You need to contact the Program Director for the approval for the registration of this course. With the approval, you can ask our academic advisor for registration assistance.
Evaluation:
At the end of the semester, you need to provide the Program Director Dr. Li a report about what you have done, your achievements, and what you have learned from the internship, AND also an evaluation letter with evaluation comments from your internship supervisor. The evaluation letter from your internship supervisor can be sent to Dr. Li together with your report from you, or sent to Dr. Li directly from the supervisor on your behalf. Based on your report, your performance, and the evaluation letter, the Program Director Dr. Li will issue the final letter grade.
This applied to both tracks, effective immediately. Should you have any questions, please feel free to reach the Program Director or Ms. Navarro.
